OLLIE TRIPPIER

Fylde is delighted to welcome back Ollie Trippier to its 1st XV squad for the 2024-25 National League season.

Ollie is from Lytham St Annes, grew up in the town and learned his rugby principally in Fylde’s Mini-Juniors age group teams. He progressed through to the Colts and 2nd team (then called the Wanderers) principally as a committed, hard tackling and hard working flanker. He gained representative honours for Lancashire at all age group levels up to the County’s U’20s squad.

He made the Fylde 1st XV squad as a replacement in January 2014 and was on the fringes of the National One squad before making his starting debut against Loughborough Students in September 2015.

Understandably, he wanted regular 1st XV appearances and this led him to join Preston Grasshoppers for the 2017-18 season. Fylde’s then Head Coach, Warren Spragg, said at that time: “Ollie will be missed. We understand his desire for first team rugby and wish him the very best of luck. He’ll always receive a warm welcome back at the Woodlands.”

Before he left Fylde Ollie flirted with moving to the hooker position and this became his regular position in due course before demonstrating his versatility by switching to prop, being able to play at tight or loose head. Ollie said: “I’ve no real preference for prop or hooker positions as I can play either.”

He became a bulwark of the Hoppers pack and made 126 appearances for their 1st XV over the course of six seasons at Lightfoot Green at either National Two (North) or North West Premier levels.

In the last couple of seasons he’s earned four caps in Lancashire’s County Championship campaigns.

Ollie Trippier said: “I’m excited to be re joining my boyhood club. I’ve got a lot of fond memories playing here and many friends who still play for the Club. So it was a bit of a no brainer for me to re-sign after I had spoken to Alex Loney and he told me about the plans the club want to achieve. I’m very much looking forward to meeting up with the lads in pre-season and giving my all to the team to have the best possible season.”

A warm welcome back Ollie!
