With senior squad pre-season training beginning this week, it’s time to turn attention to warm up games for the 25-26 season. Fylde entertain our friends from @LymmRugbyClub at the Woodlands on Sat, 16th August (free entry).

For the 2025-26 season Lymm have been moved from National 2 (North) to National 2 (West) in order to equalise the number of clubs in each. Similarly, another North West club, Chester, have also been moved to the West group. This requires both clubs to extend their travel times to away grounds considerably as they meet no fewer than eight clubs based in Somerset (Hornets, Taunton), Gloucestershire (Cinderford, Old Redclifficans), Devon (Exeter University, Barnstable) & Cornwall (Camborne, Redruth).

We believe that neither Lymm or Chester would choose this position as they are basically Northern clubs. Journalist Matt Hennessey writes a regular blog and he recently published a piece called ‘This Sporting Strife: Out on a ‘Lymm’: English Rugby’s Distant Game.’ It’s an excoriating analysis of the implications of the decision and the possible affects on the Club,” a community-rooted northern club built on volunteerism, youth development, and amateur integrity.” The article is at https://bit.ly/4l4WC4b.

On Sat, 23rd Aug the Fylde squad will travel to @BlackburnRugby, a regular pre-season fixture in recent years.
