After a gap of a few seasons, the Club is delighted to report the reformation of a Junior & Senior Colts squad. Building on the success of a talented age group squad who have worked their way through the Fylde Mini & Junior levels, this news is a great boost to the development of a pathway from junior to adult rugby.
Colts Manager Ben Curran said “I’m pleased to announce the return of a combined Junior and Senior Colts team for the 2024/25 season. This also welcomes the return of Greg Johnson to the coaching team who will be working alongside David Graham who has been a stalwart in the development of the these lads at U15s & U16s levels. This initiative aims to strengthen our club’s age-grade section and acts as a key role in the transition to the adult game. We look forward to a season of growth, teamwork, and showcasing the skills of these young adult players.”
Fylde’s Chairman of Rugby, Mark Nelson, said: “It is fantastic news that we are going to have a Senior Colts squad for the coming season. There has been a tremendous amount of excellent work by Ben Curran gone into organising the new Colts group and, with great support from Neil Riley through the MJs, the Fylde Colts will go from strength to strength. The importance of Colts Rugby cannot be understated as the conduit between age group rugby and the adult game as well as being a great strata of the game in its own right. It is vital that we have a thriving Colts and Ben and Neil are to be congratulated on creating the opportunity for young players to develop and flourish as rugby players in their late teens.”
The Colts offer a warm welcome to new players who want to join in this initiative. Training is at 6:30pm on Tuesday evenings (and it’s open). “We are at AKS at the moment but we’ll return to Fylde in August” says Ben.
