The Fylde Legacy Project is an innovative initiative that brings the storied history of Fylde RFC to life in a modern and interactive way. Using QR & NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, visitors can scan or tap their mobile devices on engraved wall tiles to unlock media stories from the club’s extensive archive, including match highlights, interviews, and iconic moments. These tiles provide an engaging way to explore the club’s past while celebrating the players who have shaped its success.
Over the years, Fylde RFC has produced many rugby legends, including:
had a fine career with Fylde, representing England & the Barbarians (1958-64). He was selected to go on the British Lions tour to Aus & NZ but declined as this clashed with his Finals at Oxford. He’s said that this was his biggest regret in his rugby career.
Was a student at Lancaster Univ and played three seasons and a bit for the club making 89 appearances and scoring a very impressive 61 tries. He then moved south and joined Wasps where he earned 9 Eng caps between 1985 & 1986.
In more recent years, Fylde has continued to produce outstanding talent, with players such as:
These recent players, along with legends from Fylde’s past, have made an indelible impact on the club’s history, and their contributions are celebrated through The Fylde Legacy Project.
This initiative also honours the club’s broader legacy, recognising the invaluable contributions of its officers and staff, as well as the many memorable events held at the club over the years. Not to be overlooked are the unforgettable moments from Fylde’s strong Mini & Juniors section, where future generations of players have honed their skills and created lifelong memories.
At the launch event supporters can sponsor a tile from the 1st phase that will remain in the clubhouse for a decade. Funds raised will be invested back into the clubhouse, ensuring it remains a welcoming and well-maintained space for members and the wider community. We encourage you to leave your own legacy by supporting the club, helping to bring its rich heritage to life while contributing to the continued improvement of its facilities.
Additionally, digital screens around the legacy walls will display dynamic signage, promoting the project and showcasing highlights of the club’s history. They say, “If the walls could talk”—with The Fylde Legacy Project, now they can!
