If these walls could Talk...The stories they would tell.

The Fylde Legacy Project is an innovative initiative that brings the storied history of Fylde RFC to life in a modern and interactive way. Using QR & NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, visitors can scan or tap their mobile devices on engraved wall tiles to unlock media stories from the club’s extensive archive, including match highlights, interviews, and iconic moments. These tiles provide an engaging way to explore the club’s past while celebrating the players who have shaped its success.

Over the years, Fylde RFC has produced many rugby legends, including:

  • Brian Ashton, the former Fylde player who went on to coach England to the 2007 Rugby World Cup Final, known for his tactical brilliance.
  • Malcolm Phillips,

had a fine career with Fylde, representing England & the Barbarians (1958-64). He was selected to go on the British Lions tour to Aus & NZ but declined as this clashed with his Finals at Oxford. He’s said that this was his biggest regret in his rugby career.

  • Bill Beaumont, one of Fylde’s most iconic players, who captained both England and the British Lions before becoming Chairman of World Rugby.
  • Roger Uttley, a key player in England’s forward pack, who also starred for the British Lions on their legendary 1974 unbeaten tour of South Africa.
  • Simon Smith,

Was a student at Lancaster Univ and played three seasons and a bit for the club making 89 appearances and scoring a very impressive 61 tries. He then moved south and joined Wasps where he earned 9 Eng caps between 1985 & 1986.

In more recent years, Fylde has continued to produce outstanding talent, with players such as:

  • Adam Lewis, a key figure in Fylde’s front row, who has been instrumental in the club’s competitiveness in the National Leagues over the last decade.
  • Chris Briers, a versatile back, whose skill and leadership on the field have made him one of Fylde’s standout players, helping drive the team forward in recent seasons.
  • David Fairbrother, a powerful and dynamic forward who has consistently delivered strong performances for Fylde, earning respect across the league.
  • Greg Nicholls, a scrum-half known for his speed and tactical awareness, who has been a key player for Fylde in the modern era.
  • Tom Carleton, an exciting young talent, who has risen through the ranks to become one of Fylde’s most electrifying backs, thrilling crowds with his pace and agility.

These recent players, along with legends from Fylde’s past, have made an indelible impact on the club’s history, and their contributions are celebrated through The Fylde Legacy Project.

This initiative also honours the club’s broader legacy, recognising the invaluable contributions of its officers and staff, as well as the many memorable events held at the club over the years. Not to be overlooked are the unforgettable moments from Fylde’s strong Mini & Juniors section, where future generations of players have honed their skills and created lifelong memories.
