We are delighted to announce that Danny Cassidy is the latest player to join the 1st XV squad for the 2025-26 season. Danny is a cross code exponent, with a long background in Rugby League and more recent experience in Rugby Union.
Danny grew up in the Wigan area under the rugby guidance of father Lee. His uncle Mick is the famous former Wigan Warriors, Barrow & Great Britain international. He attended the St John Fisher High School and progressed in amateur RL through the Wigan Warriors scholarship system and the England Community Lions pathway.
He had distinguished spells at the Wigan St Patrick’s, Ince Rose Bridge and Wigan St Judes clubs. He had an especially fine season at St Judes in 2024 when he became the National Conference League’s top scorer with 286 points in 19 appearances. He’s a very tough and durable 28 years old performer (6’1″ & 98kg) at stand off or full back in rugby league and an accomplished goal kicker. His day job is as a steel erector.

He made an interesting move to RU in 2023 when he broadened his rugby experience by joining Wigan RUFC under former Fylde favourite hooker and 1st XV coach Martin Scott and he’s had two seasons at Wingates Road where he’s played usually at centre, fullback or fly-half.
How did he link up with Fylde? “I had a chat with Alex Loney in the summer and haven’t looked back since. The facilities are second to none and all the lads in the squad have been very welcoming.”
A very warm welcome to the Fylde RFC community Danny!
