We are very, very sad to report the death of legendary Fylde member and long time volunteer, Shaun McGlue. Shaun was a unique character who lived a rich and varied life and the Club won’t quite be the same without him.

He ran and played in the Vandals from the team’s inception in 1969. He moved to refereeing in the NOWIRUL North West leagues soon after these were established and hoped to keep this up until he reached 80 years old. He didn’t quite make this but carried on as scoreboard operator at the Woodlands through all winds and weather. He was rarely seen without his shorts, even in the depths of winter.

Shaun became a Master Mariner in the Merchant Navy and travelled widely in Asia. In the process he became fluent in Hindi, a substantial achievement although of limited use in his later life as a plumber in Lytham!

Everyone associated with the Club sends their sincere condolences to Shaun’s wife Margaret, children Colin, Sarah and Maree, and their extended family and friends. You will be much missed Shaun.

Details of funeral arrangements will follow when we know them.
