We are very sad to report the death of Brian Barnard, 82, a well known, much liked and respected volunteer at the Woodlands for many years.

Brian was a Life Member of the Club, and a former Chairman of the Gates Committee and member of the General Committee. Most Fylde supporters will remember him as a constant presence in the old Entrance Box, taking the Gate money and welcoming people to the Ground.

Brian was a Sergeant in the Army during the conscription phase in the late 1950s and early ’60s and subsequently worked as a Sales Engineer in the steel industry. It is believed that he moved to the Fylde Coast from Manchester 40 or more years ago. His parents lived in Eddington Road in Fairhaven

After moving to the area, he became friendly with another former iconic figure at the Club, Gordon Aplin, and Gordon encouraged him to join the Club and thereafter become a volunteer. After Gordon’s death, he struck up another close working relationship with the current Chairman of the Gates Committee, John Wilkinson.

We send our sincere condolences to Brian’s family and friends. He will be much missed around the Woodlands. Details of his funeral will be publicised when we have them.
