Fylde RFC is delighted to confirm that the majority of the 2021-22 1st XV squad have agreed to remain with the Club for the new National Two (North) season which begins in early September.

“We’ll be releasing details of re-signings in the next few weeks along with information on new recruits” said Joint Head Coach Chris Briers.

“To start this off following the announcement of Ben Gregory and David Fairbrother as captain and vice-captain, we’re delighted that Matt Sturgess, Greg Smith and Harlan Corrie have signed up on two year contracts with the Club.”

MATT STURGESS: the former Hutton Grammar School, Tarleton RUFC, Preston Grasshoppers and Lancashire junior came through the Sale Sharks Academy system via Myerscough College’s AASE programme. He established himself at scrum-half in the Sharks U’18s squad before earning a full time professional Sharks contract in 2017. He has had a standout campaign in his first season with Fylde, making 28 1st XV appearances, notching 19 tries, debuting for the Lancashire County senior squad and receiving the Coaches’ Award at the end of season Players Awards evening.

GREG SMITH joined Fylde from Pilks Recs ARLFC in the 2016-7 season and the fly-half has made 137 appearances since then, scoring 1054 points in the process. 2021-22 has been his most productive campaign as goal kicker, running up 280 points, including five tries, and being selected this week by the National League in its National Two (North) XV of the season. He’s proved incredibly consistent and durable over these five seasons, missing only five league games in this period plus a number of caps for the Lancashire County Championship squad.

HARLAN CORRIE moved to Fylde for the start of the 2017-18 season following a long mini-junior-to-1st XV apprenticeship at Penrith RUFC plus Cumbrian County honours. The powerful ball carrying backrower quickly established himself in the Fylde team in a difficult National One season and consolidated this in 2018-19 in N2(N). His work led him to move closer to his Cumbrian home and he played for Kirkby Lonsdale in 2019-20. His return to the Woodlands has been very successful and he had an excellent season, principally at blindside flanker. He’s made a total of 58 appearances for Fylde as well as debuting for Lancashire in May 2022.

Great news guys!
