Fylde welcomes the Eagles!
A Fylde XV squad will be preparing this week for the first competitive action of the new season by welcoming a touring squad from Perthshire RUFC to the Woodlands on Saturday, 6th August (ko 13.00).
Perthshire Rugby Football Club, formerly known as Perthshire Academicals, was founded in 1868. It is one of the oldest rugby clubs in Scotland. ‘The Eagles’, as the Club is branded, is based at the North Inch in the city of Perth. They have three senior teams, a women’s squad and a flourishing Mini-Junior section. The men’s 1st XV competes in Tennent’s National League Division 3, at level four in the Scottish Rugby Union hierarchy of leagues.
The Eagles have been working hard to prepare for the new season. 1st XV captain Mat Rae believes the 2022-23 season could see something special. “This year we’ve definitely hit the ground running with preseason. The lads have all kept fit during the off season and it means we have progressed our skills and techniques much faster than previous years.
“Our coaches (incl Head Coach Alan Clark) and new Director of Rugby are doing an amazing job with training and the lads are on board doing an incredible job pushing themselves to do better every session. We have huge ambitions for this year and if we keep improving like we are, we will be on to something special.”
A piece on the Eagles’ website says: “Soon the effects of the training will be tested on the pitch. The squad travel to Blackpool to take on Fylde RFC in a highly anticipated Tour match and team building weekend 5-8th August.”
Despite their Fylde Coast geography being slightly askew, there’s no doubt that the touring party will receive a very warm, traditional Fylde RFC welcome on what is probably their first ever visit to the Memorial Ground.
