Excellent performances by Fylde Hawks & Fylde Saracens yesterday. First of all, the Hawks. Here is their Coach Phill Mills reporting on their 15-53 victory at Rossendale Rugby Club 2nds.
The Hawks remain in 2nd place in the NOWIRUL Premier Division with the same points as leaders Sedgley Park.
Hawks applied pressure in the first five minutes and opened up the scores with a penalty in front of the post converted by Alex Clayton. 0–3
Following more phase play in the Rossendale 22m area, Joe Corkish used some great footwork to score his first try for the Hawks. The conversion was missed. 0–8
Ben Gould then added to the score board with another break through the Rossendale defence and Clayton converted. 0–15
Mulenga Chilufya made a nice run down the wing after beating defenders with skill and speed and passed inside to Kyle Macaulay who scored, and it was converted by Alex Clayton. 0–22
Ben Turner and Ben Gould then combined with some link play which resulted in Turner putting the gas pedal down to beat two defenders and score. 0–27
Rossendale start to edge back into the game with some dominant forward pressure and pinned Hawks back into their 5 meter zone. After a kick to the corner ‘Dale set up a line out drive and rumbled over to score. 7 – 27. Following more Rossendale pressure Hawks give a penalty away and this resulted in 3 points. 10–27
Hawks responded with a really strong carry from Joe Probert through the Rossendale defence from the halfway line to score a converted try. 10–34
Then for fifteen to twenty minutes it was an arm wrestle between the two teams with Rossendale scoring a try next to make it 15–34.
The Hawks responded when Ben Gould once more got on the scoreboard with a charge down of a kick and scored. Alex Clayton converted. 15–41
Fylde Hawks now applied all the pressure on Rossendale. They earned a penalty and decided to go to the corner for a line out. A nice maul resulted in Sam Parker crossing the whitewash to make it. 15–46
Ben Gould had a great game and found gaps in the defence all day. He managed to snipe around the ruck and found Alex Clayton who scored and converted for a final score of 15–53.
Man of the match goes to Tom Steer who was a machine in defence and his ball carrying broke the Rossendale defence numerous times and got Fylde Hawks on the front foot.
The Saracens continued their winning form with a strong show at Ormskirk 2nds winning 15-49. They maintain their lead at the top of Division Two (North) as a consequence.
