Fylde Rugby Community Foundation staged its final session of the National Lottery Heritage Fund supported project on the Heritage of Fylde RFC at the Woodlands on Friday, 20th January. Some hundred people from throughout the community including young and old, disabled sportsmen and women, walking rugby players and a variety of sponsors who have supported the Foundations various programmes enjoyed a splendid evening celebrating Fylde RFC.

This is a story of a rugby club in its community, and its contribution over 104 years to life in that community. The project has involved memory sessions with former players, talks and the collection and sharing of archival photographs.

The final product is a video including contributions by Sir Bill Beaumont, Malcolm Phillips, Allan Townsend, David Young, Matt Filipo and Josh Beaumont. It lasts eight minutes and can be viewed by clicking on

Foundation Manager Phill Mills said: “We want to give a huge thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for making our final heritage event a huge success! Without their support, it wouldn’t have been possible to bring the community together and celebrate our rich cultural heritage.

“We plan to utilise the Heritage Project’s work to develop Fylde Rugby Club’s rich heritage as an inspiration to engage people of all ages in rugby, thereby reaping the numerous benefits of the sport and to foster a sense of community.”
