Coach Steve Gough reports.
A game of halves. Fylde took the 1st half 36-0 and Hoppers won the 2nd half 33-0! The odd thing was that all the scores were against the wind!
The game started off with blustery wind and light rain but ended in appalling conditions with high winds and heavy rain.
Fylde played some flowing rugby in the first half pushing the ball wide as often as possible and got the rewards going 36-0 up.
In the 2nd half Hoppers changed tactics and kept the ball tight and basically ground our tight defence down and after a couple of scores the momentum changed and Hoppers were on the charge.
As the weather got worse Fylde could not get a hold on the game and Hoppers change in tactics was paying off.
In the end the score didn’t reflect the conditions and both teams deserved credit for entertaining the wet and cold supporters braving the elements!
We will need to improve again next week and tighten up the defence frailties if we are going to get something from Sedgley Park at home on Saturday.
There were notable performances from Matt Ashcroft on his return from injury playing at no 8 and centre Freddie Reader. But the Men of the Match for me were both props, Rob King and Tom Kenyon, who contributed incredible 80 minute shifts.
We are progressing but still need more depth in the squad. There’s good vibes around the team and they are starting to be tighter as a group and work hard for each other. The more consistent selection we have, the better cohesive unit we become.
Next week will be a great opportunity for us to test ourselves against top opposition Sedgley Park 2nds at the Woodlands and to see how far we have come.
We are always on the lookout for new players to be part of the senior squad and to add to our aspirational pathway towards the first team. Young ambitions players who want to challenge themselves are always welcome. Get in touch with me (07747 777963) or manager Jay Harrison at jay@weareinstinct.co.uk
We are not a team within a club, we are part of the club and the very nature is that we support the performance pathway through our aspirational route, and we look forward to producing first team player’s of the future.
