Fylde skipper Ben Gregory will be leaving the Club to pursue new challenges next season..
Ben joined Fylde directly from Kirkham Grammar School in the 2016-17 season and forced his way into the 1st XV National League squad. A natural hooker, he immediately showed an exceptional mix of strength, ball handling skills, mobility, pace and game intelligence.
He soon made the no 2 position his own and he faced an immense challenge in his first season as 1st choice in 2017-18 when the team struggled against the odds in National One. They mustered just three wins during that campaign and were relegated at the end of it. He made 27 appearances out of a possible 30 matches. In an extraordinary display of durability at the heart of very competitive and fierce National League rugby forward play, Ben has missed only a handful of games in the last six seasons whilst accumulating 169 appearances in all. His scoring record is also outstanding, totalling 75 tries in the process, with his personal record of 21 last season putting him in =2nd place in N2(N) ranking.
Ben has also represented Lancashire at senior level as well as England Counties Under-20s.
He became one of Fylde RFC’s youngest captain in the history of the Club when he was appointed ahead of the 2020-21 season. Unfortunately, that campaign was cancelled due to Covid so his first season in charge was in 2021-22.
Over these seven seasons he’s earned the respect of his team-mates with his consistently high level of performance and his expectation of high standards in training.
Thanks to Ben for all his efforts in the claret, gold and white! We all wish him every success in the years ahead and he will always have a special place at the Club and will always be welcome back at the Woodlands in the future.
