A newcomer who has been named amongst the replacements for the 1st XV at Hull Ionians today is Cameron Smith. Few members and supporters will know too much about him so here’s some background.

Cameron Smith grew up in the Midlands and was a student at Malvern College. He played at Stourbridge RFC and progressed his rugby in the Worcester Warriors Academy. He then had a sabbatical in Australia and played for Northern Suburbs in Sydney, winning the Player of the Season award for their development squad in 2024.

On his return to the UK, he made links with Fylde and has family connections in this area including cousin Charlie Smith, who has been playing at lock for the Hawks, and another cousin Jak.

He has had a few games for the Hawks and has been turning influential heads including Hawks Coach Steve Gough. He said: “Cam is an exciting young player with speed to burn, good hands and a good rugby brain. He can play wing or centre. He’s certainly one to watch and I’m delighted he’s been included in the first team today.”

“The blond centre was outstanding” commented one of our trusted Members on the terraces whilst watching the Hawks demolish Chester 2nds at the Woodlands on 21st Sept.

Cam Smith said: “I’ve settled in very well at the Club. Obviously, having Charlie there is good and I knew Lucas Atherton before as well through Charlie and my other cousin Jak. My favoured position is winger. However, I do like centre as you can get more involved.”

Welcome to the Club Cam – and good luck today!
