Match Report: Crewe & Nantwich RUFC vs Fylde Senior Colts

Fylde Senior Colts delivered a commanding 52-0 victory over Crewe & Nantwich, thanks to a strong collective effort, especially from the forwards, who laid a solid foundation. The physical dominance in the pack was key, and their tireless work created space for the backs to showcase their pace and precision.

Captaining the side today, Leo Frend led by example with boundless energy and determination, continually driving his team forward and ensuring the backs had room to run. Open-side flanker Jasper Sykes also had a standout game, relentlessly hunting down attackers and putting in a strong shift defensively, even spending time at outside centre in the second half to help protect Fylde’s lines. Freddie Graham made a valuable impact off the bench, coming on as loosehead prop and providing fresh legs with some strong carries. As always, Leo Rathbone’s speed and physicality were crucial in both defence and attack.

1st Half Recap:
The opening try came from fullback Theo Craven in the 6th minute, finishing off a well-executed move, with Jack Wilsdon converting. Shortly after, sustained forward pressure allowed Sam Curran to break through for his first of three tries, again converted by Wilsdon.

Leo Rathbone added to the score after a driving maul from a lineout. Sam Curran crossed the line twice more, completing his hat-trick just before halftime, with assists from Craven and his elder brother, Toby Curran. Elliott Swann capped off the half, breaking through tackles to score Fylde’s sixth try, converted by Toby Curran.

2nd Half Recap:
With the wind and sun against them, Fylde maintained control in the second half. Sam Curran’s offload set up Max Musson for a try in the 44th minute. The final score came through Jake Rae, who chased down and regathered a grubber kick from Toby Curran to score under the posts, converted by Wilsdon.

Crewe & Nantwich showed resilience throughout, but Fylde’s intensity and determination proved too strong. After last week’s defeat to Sandbach, the Colts responded with renewed focus and clinical execution.

Special thanks to Sam Evans, George Squires, and Elliott Swann, who showed great sportsmanship by playing stints for Crewe & Nantwich.

Final Score:
Crewe & Nantwich Senior Colts 0 – Fylde Senior Colts 52

We look forward to welcoming Crewe & Nantwich to the Woodlands on Sunday, 26 January 2025.
