LANCASHIRE SENIOR MEN’S XV , PRESS RELEASE , 02/05/23
Lancashire Senior Men’s XV are delighted to announce the Squad selected to face Cheshire at Birkenhead Park on Saturday 6th May . This is the first round of games in the Bill Beaumont Cup , County Championship Northern Division and will be followed by matches v Hertfordshire (Away) on 13th May and Yorkshire at Sedgley Park RUFC on the 20th . The Group Winners will play the winners of the Southern Section at Twickenham on Sunday 28th May .
The starting team, bench and travelling reserves will be announced at Team Training on Thursday. There is a wider training group and they will get the chance to become involved in the match day squad as the tournament progresses.
The Management Group is Mark Nelson (Squad Co-ordinator), John Greenwood (Chair of Selectors), Guy Lovgreen (Team Manager), Roly Heptonstall (Kit Manager), Greg Littler (Lead Physiotherapist).
The Coaching Team is Alex Loney (Head Coach), Stephen Briers (Backs Coach), Paul Arnold (Forwards Coach).
Danny Birchall has been appointed Captain.
Mark Nelson Commented: “Everyone involved is very much looking forward to and excited by the challenge we face over the next three weeks. We have a great squad combining a real mix of experience and fresh faces to the County Side. The prize is a fourth game, The Final, at Twickenham.
“The players are expertly led by a new coaching combination headed up for the first time by Alex Loney, supported by Paul Arnold (Forwards) and Stephen Briers (Backs). We have a great management group and everyone involved is relishing the competition starting with our neighbours Cheshire over the Mersey at Birkenhead Park on Saturday . It is great to see the enthusiasm, commitment and passion for the Red Rose of Lancashire demonstrated by the lads at the end of a long hard season.“
