The Club is delighted to welcome new prop forward Alex Brooks to the 1st XV squad. He made his starting debut for the team last Saturday against Billingham at loose head and played impressively until replaced late on.
Alex grew up in Stockport and is a product of Stockport Grammar School. He learnt his rugby there as well as at Stockport RUFC and Wilmslow RUFC. He gained representative honours for Cheshire from U’15s to U’17s before joining Sale Sharks Academy U’18s. He moved on to Sale Jets at the same time as attending Manchester Metropolitan University and eventually skippering their 1st XV. He was guided by his father who, although not a rugby player himself, took incredible interest in his son’s rugby journey. He took him regularly to training and games, far and wide, and helped him with diet and training as he had a distinguished career as a bodybuilder including competing in the Mr Universe competition.
Alex’s senior club career started at Sedgley Park in the 2022-23 season and he made seven appearances in the club’s National Two (North)’s championship winning campaign. He lives currently in Nantwich and moved briefly to Macclesfield RFC locally before joining Fylde. How did that happen?
Alex Brooks said: “Tanē Bentley, who is a good friend of mine from university, Sedgley and from our work in an events business, sparked my interest to come to Fylde. I had a phone call with Lono (Alex Loney) to finalise details. My first impression is that it’s a very close knit club with a great bunch of lads and coaches. The rugby is quick and skilful and the lads really leave it all out there for each other. It was a huge honour to start on my debut and to have such a positive first impression of the lads!”
Fylde Joint Head Coach Alex Loney said: “We’re really pleased that Alex has joined the squad after ongoing recruitment for this position since the off season. Alex has a solid playing background for a young prop and we are hoping that he can reach his own ambitions at National League level whilst contributing to team success. Following a pleasing debut last weekend, I am sure he will be a valuable addition to the squad.”
