Fylde’s latest recruit is the very experienced and versatile Ben Dorrington who joins the Club from Preston Grasshoppers.
Ben is a very well known figure in Northern rugby with an extensive playing career in National League and Northern Regional divisions.
The former Sedbergh School student went on to study at Bishop Burton College where he earned a BSc in Sports Science. He had three successful seasons at Hull RUFC, just 10 miles from the College, and made 83 1st XV appearances for the Club scoring tries as well as developing into a respectable goal kicker.
He then re-joined his boyhood club, Vale of Lune, and was a key part of their league winning North West One squad in 2017/18. By this time he had moved from his original home at flanker to play at either fly-half or centre. In 2019-20 he joined his younger brother Jordan at Preston Grasshoppers and played four full seasons at Lightfoot Green making 82 1st XV appearance in all.
At the Woodlands Ben will link up once more with brother Jordan who has had two very successful seasons at Fylde since re-joining the Club in 2022-3 following an earlier four year spell between 2013-2017.
Ben Dorrington said: “I am very much looking forward to the chance to be playing at Fylde and it gives me an opportunity to finish my career playing with my brother. It’s great for my family as they don’t have to split themselves between teams and games they go to in the season.
“Fylde play a great expansive game of rugby which I think will suit my style of game – that is if I can keep up in my old age! Aha! I’m very thankful to be given this chance and only hope I can please the team, coaches and the off field support.”
Ben has an interesting professional career with experience in Lancashire’s Fire & Rescue Service as well as a team leader in a children’s home based in Heysham.
