Cornwall qualified to meet Lancashire in the Bill Beaumont County Championship Final at the Allianz Twickenham Stadium on Saturday, 6th June. Lancashire had beaten Yorkshire over two legs on the 9th & 16th May. The Cornwall v Kent semi-final was on 23rd & 30th May and ‘Kernow’ smashed the Men of Kent by an aggregate score of 132-29.
These two counties have met four times in County Championship Finals in the last 13 seasons – in 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2017, with the Red Rose county holding the bragging rights with 3 victories and 1 defeat. These games have been held in a great atmosphere with Trelawny’s Army invading English Rugby’s HQ with thousands of spectators.
With Camborne, outstanding champions of National Two (West) this past season, providing the great majority of the Cornish squad, it will be a tough challenge for Lancashire to come away with the silverware. But the Northerners will travel to the Big Smoke with confidence that they can come away once more with their 25th County Championship title, by some distance ahead of rivals over the 137 years of the tournament.
