Fylde RFC is thrilled to announce the appointment of Tom Armstrong as the new Player and Strength & Conditioning Coach. Tom brings a wealth of experience, both as an ex-professional rugby league player and as the founder of TAFit, a cutting-edge recovery and performance business.
Tom’s journey through the world of professional sports has been nothing short of inspiring. Having played for some of rugby league’s most storied clubs — St Helens, Leigh Centurions, Widnes Vikings, Sheffield Eagles, and Toronto Wolfpack — Tom was forced to retire early due to osteoarthritis. However, his passion for sports and peak performance never wavered. Over the last few years, he has built TAFit, a company dedicated to helping athletes and individuals achieve their best through innovative methods like red light therapy, elite-level coaching & retreats, gut analysis, and blood testing.
Red light therapy, one of TAFit’s specialties, is a scientifically-backed method that accelerates muscle recovery, reduces inflammation, and improves overall performance—essential tools for any athlete looking to push their limits. Alongside this, Tom’s coaching expertise spans a wide range of disciplines, from rugby to Ironman athletes, making him a versatile asset to any sportsperson’s journey.
TAFit isn’t just about recovery; it’s a comprehensive approach to performance. The company also boasts a performance clothing line, ethically sourced and trusted by athletes across various sports. Whether it’s rugby clubs or gyms, TAFit’s gear is known for its quality and effectiveness, standing as a testament to Tom’s commitment to excellence.

After his playing career was abruptly halted, Tom immersed himself in understanding the science of recovery and performance, and now, after six years, he’s returning to the rugby field — not just as a player, but as a mentor. His role at Fylde RFC will allow him to share his vast knowledge with the next generation of players, ensuring they have the tools to excel both on and off the field.
Tom is also a dedicated endurance athlete and Hyrox competitor, continuing to push his own physical limits while coaching others to do the same. His work at TAFit, based on Alexandria Drive in St. Annes, has already transformed the lives of many athletes, and he’s eager to bring that same level of impact to Fylde.
“I’m absolutely chomping at the bit to get started,” Tom said. “It’s not just about playing — it’s about giving back to the sport and helping these lads achieve their best. Whether through one-on-one coaching, injury prevention, recovery enhancement with red light therapy, or just being there to guide them, I’m here to support the team and the community.”
