Brief Game Overview – After a tough Lancashire Cup season that saw the Fylde u14s finish at the top of Pool D, we made it through the knock out stages to reach the Bowl final at Rochdale. The opposition was Manchester Barbarians who were 3 pools higher in Pool A. This was the biggest challenge the team have ever faced, and they threw everything they had into it.
An early try from Jackson S set the pace, followed by another 10 minutes later by Archie S which was converted by Harry S. The Fylde defence was incredible, including a hold up to prevent a Manchester try by Liam K and Oliver O. Half time and Fylde led 0-12.
In the second half, Manchester scored and converted early on and really put the pressure on, with Fylde doing an excellent job to defend the try line from a relentless succession of crash balls. Manchester eventually scored late in the game but missed the conversion to make the scores even at 12-12.
The lads continued to dig in through extra time even though they were clearly shattered, and it all came down to a lineout and rolling maul, then a pass out that went from Archie B to Joe H to Jackson S to Harry S to Logan C who almost made it before being brought down, but managed to offload to Harry S who scored. A perfect phase from the forwards to the backs across the width of the pitch had won us the game and the Lancashire Cup Bowl. A perfect end to a great season.
